The Killarney Foundation is a dedicated public foundation that addresses the charitable needs of donors, grant seekers, and scholarship recipients within the Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain. Donors contribute collectively, and their funds are consolidated into permanent endowments. A percentage of the interest income generated from these endowments is utilized to provide both grants and scholarships.

The Foundation's Objectives

To assist and provide for and promote the wellbeing of the citizens of the Town of Killarney and surrounding area in the cultural, mental moral and physical aspects of life in the municipality; to promote educational advancement for the increase of human knowledge and the alleviation of human suffering and to provide for and assist needy men, women and children. Elegibility

Projects must benefit the people of municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain.

Process

Submit application form along with:

  • Financial statement or most recent bank statement
  • Budget/itemized quote— refer to example

Guidelines

A Grant Agreement may be required to be signed at the discretion of the Killarney Foundation.

A representative from each organization requesting funding must be present at the Grant Meeting to advocate for the funding request.

Project proposals not eligible for funding, particularly from the undesignated community endowment funds, include those that:

  • Individuals seek for personal medical benefits
  • Annual fundraising campaigns or events
  • Purchases and expenses already incurred or to retire debt
  • Establish or add to endowment funds
  • Support religious organizations
  • Promote political activities or support advocacy initiatives
  • Are from for-profit organizations
  • Support the operating expenses of established organizations or programs
  • Involve federal, provincial, or municipal government agencies and school boards

Keith Heming Scholarship

This scholarship is granted to KCI graduates entering the first year of law at a Canadian university. Once an eligible recipient is identified, the annual income will be available to that recipient while completing the law degree course. If, in any given year, more than one person becomes eligible, the available amount for granting will be equally divided among those eligible recipients.


Application Deadline:  Must be received by July 15 with proof of GPA

Hank Thomson Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to former Killarney graduates attending university for a degree and continuing their education after completing the first year. Students must maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.0 (“B” average), with a maximum payment of $2,500 to any one student per year, and a maximum of five years of funding. The scholarship will be divided among as many students who meet the criteria.


Application Deadline:  Must be received by July 15 with proof of GPA

Harold Parsonage Aviation Scholarship

This $1,000.00 scholarship is awarded annually to an individual pursuing pilot training. The individual must be a resident of Canada, with preference given to those from rural MB, SK, or AB, and new pilots or pilot-in-training. Selection will be made by the Parsonage Family. The application must be submitted online through the airgreenway.com website, and the award is announced on February 1 each year.


Application Deadline:  Must be received by December 31 with proof of GPA

John A Ross Memorial Bursary

This bursary is for mature students who have not attended a secondary or post-secondary institution for at least one year and are returning to school to further their education. This is not a scholarship, and prior academic standings are not considered; instead, a candidate’s current maturity and financial need are the main factors. Students must be former KCI graduates or current residents of the Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain, demonstrate financial need, and be accepted at a qualifying institution (provide student ID information). Consideration may be given to past recipients who maintain a minimum B average and continue to meet the criteria.


Application Deadline:  Must be received by July 15 with proof of GPA

Killarney Agricultural Society Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to KCI graduates or Killarney Lakeside Christian School graduates who have completed one year at an accredited college or university and are returning for a subsequent year. The scholarship is not based on GPA, though students must have passed a majority of their previous year’s courses, with a maximum of $1,000 in any one year to any one student. Available funds are divided equally among as many students as may apply in any one year who meet the scholarship criteria.
